"A Brush With The Law" 9" x 12" oil on panel
PRINT EDITION SOLD OUT! THANK YOU!!!!
Welcome, and thank you for visiting!
I enjoy painting simple, highly detailed, familiar objects set in still life compositions. The Still Life genre offers me an opportunity to explore subjects that have long held importance in my life. The subjects in my compositions evoke memories. Spending time painting the fine details of these subjects allows exploration into the meaning such simple, common objects hold for me.
Most of my work is light-hearted, maybe funny to some, and my intent is to make the viewer smile. After almost 30 years in law enforcement, and witnessing the distressing, and at times horrific, consequences of how we humans treat each other, I choose to spend my art career focusing on happier subjects! All of us face personal challenges, some disastrous, and no matter what the circumstances, laughter and smiles go a long way in helping us to recover.
Often, I incorporate contemporary symbolism in my compositions.
I also paint to learn. While painting, I learn new techniques, I learn about other artists, and I learn more about my subject matter.
My hope is to create work that is beautiful, meaningful, evocative, and fun.
